Recently I've been wanting to watch the movie "Drop Dead Gorgeous"-- a mocumentary about a beauty pageant in the mid-West. I am a big fan of mocumentaries. Drop dead gorgeous is more scripted than improv, but other movies such as "Best in Show" and "This is Spinal Tap" are more improv than script, and I also fully enjoy them. There is something about the false honesty of the characters, and the often dead pan delivery.
Sometimes I find myself getting lost in www.imdb.com-- internet movie database. I like following links of actors and movies, to realize where certain actors are from and who they've worked with. I've been watching Dexter online, and only when I imdb-ed the show did I realize that he played by the same actor as David from 6 Feet Under. I also enjoy going there after I've watched a movie to read the trivia/goofs section, and checking out the quotes section of movies I haven't seen in a while but think are great. For example:
Voice of Documentarian: So what was the theme of the pageant last year?
Gladys Leeman: Last year? It was, "Buy American."
Voice of Documentarian: And the year before that?
Gladys Leeman: "U.S.A. is A-okay."
Voice of Documentarian: Can you remember the theme of your favorite pageant?
Gladys Leeman: "Can I? I'm Amer-I-Can!" People ask me where I get this. I don't know, it's, maybe a gift from God or somethin'.
Meg Swan: We met at Starbucks. Not at the same Starbucks but we saw each other at different Starbucks across the street from each other.
ultimately, it comes down to this:
David St. Hubbins: It's such a fine line between stupid, and clever.
and either way, I think it's funny.
